Barley Soup is good for the soul
Filipinos cooking with barley? Yeah, it happened! And it was, surprisingly good. I ended up cooking a potful of this "Mushroom Barley" soup recipe that I found in some magazine somewhere. Of course, it took me forever to find barley. The commissary doesn't cell barley. All they sell is regular rice and all the types of pasta you can think of. But I managed to find some in my local German Market (they sell a whole bunch of crap that your normal grocery store doesn't cell - i.e. bottles of wine from all around the continent for about 4 dollars). Anyway, now I've got little serving size portions of the soup in my freezer. I will definitely never go hungry again. I'm going to have left overs forever. Maybe next time, I should cut the recipe in half?Did I tell you about the weekend I spent making an egg salad sandwich? yeah, that's my life now....
