Barley Soup is good for the soul

Filipinos cooking with barley? Yeah, it happened! And it was, surprisingly good. I ended up cooking a potful of this "Mushroom Barley" soup recipe that I found in some magazine somewhere. Of course, it took me forever to find barley. The commissary doesn't cell barley. All they sell is regular rice and all the types of pasta you can think of. But I managed to find some in my local German Market (they sell a whole bunch of crap that your normal grocery store doesn't cell - i.e. bottles of wine from all around the continent for about 4 dollars). Anyway, now I've got little serving size portions of the soup in my freezer. I will definitely never go hungry again. I'm going to have left overs forever. Maybe next time, I should cut the recipe in half?

Did I tell you about the weekend I spent making an egg salad sandwich? yeah, that's my life now....

Starting my Masters

Haha! Mom and dad now have all four kids in college again! I signed up for my Masters Degree the other day and will be starting my first class in April. It's through the University of Oklahoma and it'll be in International Relations. The classes sound pretty easy. Just a lot of reading. And the way it works is that you do all the reading before classes start. Then, you go to class for about 4 hours a day for 5 days and then a full day of lecture (i.e. 8-9 hours) on the 6 and 7 days. Something like that. I'm not sure how it all works out, but as long as I keep it up, I'll have my degree in about a year and a half.

Luckily, the military is paying for the credits, so all I have to do is pay for my books. It's that easy!!

I'm doing so much studying these days, it's not even funny.... At least work isn't keeping me too busy (for now).
